Esther Mae Carter [Tackett], KHS 1942

Esther M. Tackett, 84, of Kennett Square, passed away at her residence Friday, September 5, 2008. Her first husband James E. Tackett, passed away in 1996 and her special companion Valentine DeJesus, passed away in 2005.Born in West Chester, she was the daughter of the late Richard B. and Anna Mary Stafford Carter.

Esther was a self-employed Housekeeper for the past 56 years. She served in the U.S. Army “W.A.C.S” during World War II. Esther was a member of the Bethel AME Church in Kennett Square, and the East Linden Street project-H.E.L.P

She enjoyed gardening, and being a Mother to everyone.

She is survived by four sons, Robert Tackett of Reading, Pa., James Tackett and his wife Shirley of Kennett Square, Pa., Richard Tackett and his wife Vanessa of Kennett Square, Pa. and William Tackett and his wife Alice of Oxford, Pa.; five daughters, Alethea Taggart and her husband William of Newark, Del., Betty Jean Tackett of West Chester, Diane Michael of Linwood, Pa., Linda Miller of West Grove, Pa. and Michele Huggins and her significant other Marvin Wilson of Oxford, Pa.; two brothers, Lewis Carter and Thomas Carter, both of Kennett Square, Pa.; two sisters, Hilda Martin of West Grove, Pa. and Eunice Carter of Kennett Square, Pa., twenty five grandchildren and many great and great-great grandchildren.

She predeceased by one son, Larry Tackett and one daughter, Melissa Tackett Bowers.

Family and friends are invited to visit with Esther’s family on Thursday morning, September 11, 2008, from 9 to 11 a.m. at the Bethel AME Church, 300 East Linden Street, Kennett Square, Pa. Her service will follow at 11 a.m. Burial will be private.
